Darryl was born 1947 in Rockhampton, Queensland and moved to Cronulla in 1970 after serving a tour, as an Infantry soldier, in the Vietnam War, 1968-69. He became a Bricklayer after completing his apprenticeship in 1975 and worked in the building industry in the Sutherland Shire for almost 10 years before he joined the Australian Federal Police (Protective Service) where he served a long career mostly in Counter Terrorism at Sydney Airport.
Darryl, always a keen photographer started at the age of 15 with a Kodak Brownie Box camera. He began taking surfing photos and making amateur films in 1970 and has continued till present day with a brief respite due to career pressures in the late 1990’s. Retired, Darryl now uses Nikon equipment (D3 & D4 bodies and a range of lenses including a 600mm f4 Nikon Lens) and continues to pursue his passion whenever the surf is up around the Cronulla area. He has had his work published in Japan, USA and France, mainly in Bodyboarding Magazines.
